The AP is reporting the following terms on the deal Verizon Communications (VZ) struck with the unions to end the strike that now approaches 7 weeks. Reported deal terms are as follows: 1,300 new call center jobs 10.5% raises over four yearsfirst contract for Verizon Wireless store workers$1,250 signing bonus and health care reimbursements for new employees25% increase in unionized crews that maintain utility poles in New Yorkincreases in pensions On the flip side, Verizon suggests the deal allows for flexibility in call sharing and cost savings around healthcare. As always, the proof is in the pudding, but the general review suggests that Verizon lost by having the brand damaged for 7 weeks and still have to provide increased benefits to unions including hints that wireless store workers are inching more towards being unionized.
